Injury prevention at Langley Clinic

Dan Sivertson is one of those unassuming guys who makes the world a better place just by being in it.

Physio Dan served up injury prevention tips at W.C. Blair Rec Centre and talked about Gumby, Goldilocks, gaits and groaning to the Sun Run InTraining participants. He then ran with the group for an hour. He also demonstrated warm-up, cool down and flexibility exercises.

A humble physiotherapist at Pure Form Physio in Langley, Sivertson works with the national Paralympic swim team, assists a local cancer survivor’s Dragon Boat crew, has worked at various hospital wards and is involved in concussion management.

The father of two small children has a zest for cycling, running and getting outdoors.

He said at least 50 per cent of all runners will experience an injury at one time or another, a stat that non-runners like to parrot as their go-to excuse for not kicking asphalt, or for not being an exercise fan. Many of the injuries are preventable and almost all are treatable.

Sivertson said the upside of the sport — listing off a number of diseases and health conditions that are reduced or prevented from running — is what keeps him and his friends going after minor setbacks.
